Choir Teacher - North Campus

JOB DESCRIPTION.

Second Baptist School University-Model® (SBSUM) North Campus is currently seeking a PART-TIME CHOIR TEACHER for the 2026-2027 school year.

  • Position Title: Choir Teacher
  • Reports To: Dean of North Campus
  • Work Calendar: Ten Months

JOB SUMMARY.

An SBSUM teacher is expected to deliver high-quality instruction that supports student learning, integrates biblical truth throughout the curriculum and models a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ. The Choir Teacher will cultivate a love for music, develop students’ vocal skills and create meaningful opportunities for students to grow in confidence, teamwork and worship through music.

RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES.

Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging choir instruction aligned with curriculum goals.
  • Teach foundational music concepts including pitch, rhythm, tone, diction, harmony and sight-reading as age appropriate.
  • Develop students’ vocal technique, musical expression and ensemble performance skills.
  • Lead rehearsals that foster discipline, teamwork and excellence.
  • Select age-appropriate music that supports student growth and aligns with the mission and values of the school.
  • Prepare students for performances, chapel participation, concerts and other school events as assigned.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages participation, confidence and creativity.
  • Demonstrate mastery of assigned subject matter and effective instructional practices.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varied learning needs and readiness levels.
  • Establish and communicate clear learning objectives to students and parents.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom and maintain biblical discipline standards in accordance with school expectations.
  • Communicate clearly and work closely with parents regarding student progress and classroom matters.
  • Stay current on best practices in music education and educational excellence.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development opportunities.
  • Attend all required meetings, training sessions, parent conferences, devotions and school functions.
  • Supervise co-curricular activities, organizations and outings as assigned.
  • Comply with all SBSUM, Second Baptist School and Second Baptist Church policies and procedures.

CANDIDATE SUMMARY.

We seek the following in qualified candidates:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Degree emphasis in music, music education or a related field preferred.
  • Experience teaching choir, vocal music or elementary/secondary music.
  • Ability to accompany rehearsals on piano or keyboard preferred.
  • A strong Christian testimony and a calling to serve as a positive Christian role model to all students.
  • A heart to provide exceptional customer service to all members of the community.
  • A desire to build relationships and promote a culture reflective of the school’s mission, passion and core values.
  • A desire to lead and support all school-wide initiatives.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate a strong track record of excellence in work habits.
  • A collaborative and creative growth mindset.
  • Proficiency in technology and strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • A responsible steward of the school’s resources and a commitment to support the school’s fundraising efforts as able.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES REQUIRED.

To perform this job successfully, candidates must be willing and able to:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Perform other related work to accomplish the objectives of the school.

Ideal candidates should have three or more years of teaching experience and/or hold teacher certification from a state agency or school accreditation agency.
